Fishwicks Printers, leaders in the South African field of print manufacture and software solutions, including the design and production of point of sale (P.O.S), has been in business for over 40 years under the leadership of the current chairman Max Nathan.
Max was asked what vision he and his team had for Fishwicks when he purchased the business back in 1969 with a total staff compliment of 3. He stated; "It was the days of typesetting and we knew that if we were to be successful leaders in our field, we would have to provide excellent customer service and continually move with the times particularly in the field of technology.
"Customer service levels have always been a priority and it is wonderful to have so many customers who have been with us for all this time. We also ensured that our technical and production knowledge would continue to be of superior levels and we instilled into our business methodologies that if you provide good service, become innovative in our field of expertise, we would build a solid reputation in the market, which I am pleased to say we have done and will continue to build on."
It is evident that Fishwicks quickly moved with the times as in 1999 they were the first South African print manufacturer to install an eight-colour Heidelberg printing press. This allowed them to print four colours on both sides of the sheet in one pass, and as such, enabled them to produce work in half the normal time compared to other printers, thereby creating efficiencies and increasing service levels.
If you delve deeper into the history of Fishwicks you will discover that the late Pat Gounder was a partner in the business literally from inception and since his passing 14 years ago, his son Devan has followed in his father's footsteps and is the current production director. One then also realises that black economic empowerment is not a new concept to Fishwicks and they currently have a BBBEE level 3 rating.
Another very important aspect of the Fishwicks offering, which is very reassuring for not only the corporate, retail and advertising industry but the market in general, is that they provide P.O.S, offset-litho, large and small format digital printing, pre-press, silkscreen and offer software products/solutions which has seen enormous growth over the last few years. This is a major differentiating factor compared to other printers in the South African market. Fishwick's philosophy is to be able to offer a range of products be it manufacturing or software solutions under one roof, providing a full turnkey solution to their current and potential customer base.
